EVERTON HIT FOR SIX
11TH DECEMBER 1984
Holders Everton crashed out of this season’s F.A. Youth Cup when hammered 6-0 by Newcastle United in last night’s second round game at St. James’ Park last night.
It was Everton’s first appearance in the competition this term and they were in trouble from the first minute when John Allon shot Newcastle ahead. Gary Powell was denied an equaliser by a fine Gary Kelly save then Newcastle went on a goal spree and exacted full revenge for a defeat against Everton in last season’s quarter finals. They hit further goals from Paul Gascoigne, Tony Nesbitt and Allon with keeper Stephen Hall conceding a sixth when Geoff Wrightson’s shot took a deflection.
