YOUTH TUMBLE OUT OF CUP
31ST JANUARY 1995
Two first half blunders by Everton keeper Jim Speare contributed to a 3-1 defeat by Sheffield United in the FA Youth Cup.
It was in the unlucky 13th minute when Speare could only watch as the ball squirmed through his legs from Darren Vine’s tap in.
The visitors increased their lead four minutes before the break and again Speare was at fault. Steven Hawe’s centre looked to be going nowhere but in his attempts to collect the ball Speare could only help it into the goal.
Everton tried desperately to get back into the game during the second half but, on 70 minutes, United got a third when Craig Powell’s harmless looking cross rolled into an empty goal.
Rob Tynan pulled a goal back on 72 minutes knocking in Gavin McCanns cross.
